About The Meadows Day Care Centre

Providing Good Quality Childcare since 1998.

Our Story

The Meadows was born from the imagination of a few individuals linked to Glebelands Primary School who had a desire to have a purpose-built childcare facility and community centre on the same site as the primary school. 'The Meadows Project', as it was known, secured a piece of land from Cambridgeshire County Council and £250,000 of National Lottery funding which led to construction starting in 1997.

Opening in September 1998, the officially titled 'Meadows Centre' was used by an After School Club for children from Glebelands Primary and a Nursery for children from the Chatteris and wider community.

Since 1998 the Centre has built a reputation as a provider of quality childcare for children and their parents from the local community.

Run by a voluntary Management Committee of present and past parents/carers of children who have attended the Centre, Meadows Staff and members of the local community, the Centre is an independent registered charity run exclusively for the benefit of the local community. As a registered charity, we have no owners and are not driven to make large profits and as such we strive to keep our fees as low as possible.

The main activity of the Centre has always been the nursery, providing childcare for children from the age of 2 until their transition to primary schools. To ensure this transition to mainstream education is as smooth as possible, we have strong links with the Foundation Stage staff at Glebelands Primary Academy.
